The pathogenesis involves SARS-CoV-2-induced epithelial damage creating portals for Aspergillus invasion, compounded by immune dysregulation from corticosteroids and cytokine storms. Despite its clinical significance, optimal management remains contentious due to limited evidence from small cohorts.
Study Design: Rigorous Multinational Collaboration
This retrospective cohort analyzed 259 probable/proven CAPA cases from French hospitals and five European ICUs (2020 onward). Researchers employed:
- Cox regression with inverse probability treatment weighting
- Propensity score adjustment for baseline characteristics
