Background
Body position is a modifiable determinant of respiratory mechanics in critically ill, mechanically ventilated patients. Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is characterized by heterogeneous lung involvement, and patient positioning influences transpulmonary pressure distribution, functional residual capacity, and airway closure.
