Trivandrum Autism Behavioural Checklist (TABC)
20-item autism screening checklist scored from 1 to 4 per item
TABC includes 20 items across Social Interaction, Communication, Behavioural Characteristics, and Sensory Integration.
Checklist items
1. Inability to establish or maintain eye contact
2. Child does not respond when called, sometimes appears to be deaf
3. Difficulty in mixing and playing with other children of the same age
4. Lack of appropriate emotional response
5. Can do certain tasks well, but not the tasks involving social understanding
6. Difficulty in comprehension or communication
7. May indicate wants by gestures or by leading adults by the hand
8. Echolalia, using nonsensical words, or muttering to self
9. Lack of pretend play
10. Likes sameness in everyday routine
11. Inappropriate attachments to objects
12. Unusual body movements such as flapping hands or rocking and jumping
13. Extreme restlessness, hyperactivity, over-passivity, or preferring to be alone all the time
14. Not responsive to normal teaching methods
15. Does not like to be hugged or touched, or apparent insensitivity to pain
16. Intolerance of or addiction to certain sounds, tastes, odours, or visuals
17. No understanding of fear of real dangers, or excessive fear of heights or change in position
18. Enjoys spinning or rotating objects
19. Inappropriate laughing and giggling, or crying spells with extreme distress for no apparent reason
20. Difficulty in fine motor skills, a tendency to fall or clumsiness, or resistance to new motor movement activities
