BARD Score for NAFLD Advanced Fibrosis
The BARD score was originally developed and validated by Harrison et al. (Gut 2008; 57(10): 1441–1446) as a simple clinical scoring system designed to identify patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD / MASLD) who do not have advanced hepatic fibrosis (F3 bridging fibrosis or F4 cirrhosis).
Clinical & Laboratory Parameters
Enter body mass index (BMI), routine transaminases (AST, ALT), and type 2 diabetes status
Weight in kg divided by height in meters squared; >= 28.0 kg/m² scores 1 point, < 28.0 scores 0 points
Serum AST concentration (U/L), used to compute the AST/ALT ratio
Serum ALT concentration (U/L), used to compute the AST/ALT ratio (ratio >= 0.80 scores 2 points)
Established diagnosis of type 2 diabetes scores 1 point, absence scores 0 points
